In a recent operation, Assam Police apprehended a Bangladeshi national, identified as Md. Arif, who attempted to enter Indian territory illegally. This incident occurred in Karimganj, a district in Assam that shares a border with Bangladesh. Following his apprehension, Md. Without delay, Arif was sent back across the border.

The operation reflects ongoing efforts by the Assam authorities to maintain strict vigilance along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Assam Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) in managing border security effectively. In a statement, he praised the police for their diligence, noting that this was part of a broader initiative where 128 Bangladeshi nationals had been pushed back over the past two months due to similar attempts to infiltrate Indian territory123.

The apprehension of Md. Arif is indicative of the heightened security measures in place, especially in northeastern states like Assam, which share a 263 km border with Bangladesh. The region has seen a significant number of illegal crossings, prompting local authorities to intensify their patrols and surveillance to prevent such incidents14.

In recent months, various operations have led to the detention and subsequent repatriation of multiple Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross into India.

For instance, earlier this month, several individuals were sent back after being caught trying to enter Assam illegally56. These actions are part of a concerted effort by the state government to address illegal immigration and maintain law and order along the border.

The situation remains dynamic, with local authorities continuing to monitor and respond to any unauthorized crossings. The Assam Police’s proactive approach aims not only to enforce immigration laws but also to ensure the safety and security of local communities against potential threats associated with illegal immigration
