Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have officially finalized their divorce after an extensive eight-year legal battle, marking the conclusion of one of Hollywood’s most publicized and contentious splits. The couple, who were married for two years and together for twelve, share six children. Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, citing irreconcilable differences following an incident on a private plane where allegations of abuse surfaced against Pitt.
The divorce process has been fraught with complications, including custody disputes and disagreements over asset division. Legal experts noted that the drawn-out nature of the proceedings was not typical, attributing it to various factors such as the couple’s inability to reach consensus on key issues and the involvement of child welfare investigations. These investigations were initiated after allegations emerged regarding Pitt’s behavior towards the children during the flight incident. In 2019, a judge declared Jolie and Pitt legally single, yet unresolved matters related to custody and financial assets persisted.
