The amount of Covid-related deaths in Japan reached a new high of 7,688 in December 2022, breaking the previous record of 7,329 set in August during the last coronavirus wave.

Health officials stated on Saturday that the number of coronavirus-related deaths reported across the country in Japan reached a record-high 463 for a single day. According to Japan Today, the nation reported 238,654 new coronavirus cases, a decrease of 6,888 on Friday. 19,630 new cases were reported in Tokyo, down 1,090 on Friday. There were 55 infected patients in hospitals in Tokyo with severe symptoms, an increase of two from Friday. The number increased by nine to 668 nationwide. As there was no halting the coronavirus, which has killed thousands in Japan in just a month, the country announced 456 Covid-related deaths on Friday. There were worries that the celebrations around the New Year would simply increase the number of Covid infections and fatalities.
