Railway minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday met with top courier services including DHL Express, Blue Dart, Delhivery, FedEx, among others, to foster partnership in order to boost railway freight and parcel services.
The meeting was called to discuss and explore the possibilities of expanding the business of private parcel services through Indian Railways, the railway ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
A joint working group is going to be formed consisting of Railway officials and representatives of logistics and courier providers to this effect.
DTDC, TCI Express, ECom Express, All Cargo, UPS, Shree Maruti Courier Services, and Aramex were among other companies present at the meeting held late Wednesday evening.
Railways is looking to offer reliable, fast , affordable and easy to handle parcel services for logistics and courier agencies, the statement said.

Goyal has suggested “win-win solutions” to ensure a sustainable business development for all in the area.
The Indian Railways have run 5,292 Parcel trains between 22nd March this year till 2nd September, of which 5,139 have been time-tabled trains. Total 3,18,453 tonnes of consignments have been loaded in these trains and the earnings have been Rs. 116.19 crores, the statement said.
A number of concessions are also being given by the Indian Railways to make freight movement through railways attractive. Improvements in freight movements will be institutionalized and incorporated in the upcoming zero based time table, the statement said.
The Indian Railways Freight loading for the month of August 2020 with total 94.33 million tonnes of freight loading surpassed last year’s loading for the same month.August freight loading, however, registered a marginal decline as compared to loading in July 2020.
