Alongside the tariffs, Trump also imposed a travel ban on Colombian government officials and announced enhanced inspections for Colombian nationals and cargo entering the U.S., citing national security concerns.

However, following diplomatic negotiations, Colombia agreed to accept all deported migrants, including those arriving on U.S. military aircraft. In a statement released by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, it was confirmed that Colombia had agreed to "unrestricted acceptance" of these individuals without delay. As a result, Trump decided to hold the tariffs "in reserve" and not implement them as initially planned.
