Houses set on fire by violent mob in east Delhi’s Maujpur

For the second consecutive day on Monday, clashes broke out between pro and anti-CAA groups who pelted stones on each other in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur area.

Violence has escalated in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur now as vehicles have been set on fire and stone pelting continues between pro and anti CAA groups.

A family was being attacked by a a group of miscreants but some people managed to rescue them. A boy who was in his 20s was also subject to brutal assault by a violent mob.

Violent mobs lit slippers on fire and tossed them towards balconies of houses as the gates of these houses were locked.

Delhi Police has been struggling to control the mobs along with an additional group of Delhi police continually asking people to maintain peace and return to their homes.

Police used tear gas shells to disperse the warring groups but struggled to contain the situation.

Entry & exit of Jaffrabad and Maujpur-Babarpur are closed. Trains will not be halting at these stations,” DMRC tweeted.

The DMRC had closed the Jaffrabad station Sunday morning and Maujpur later in the evening when the clashes broke out for the first time. The two stations are close to each other.

Buildings around the metro station at Maujpur have suffered damages and windows of many of them have been smashed.

The protest against the CAA in Jaffrabad began Saturday night after about 500 women a sit in and blocked a road. There is heavy deployment of police force in Jaffrabad.

Police also used tear gas Sunday evening in Maujpur after pro-CAA supporters and anti-CAA protesters attacked each other with stones soon after a gathering, called by BJP leader Kapil Mishra, demanded that the police remove the protestors within three days
