Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann recently congratulated and honored athletes from the state who participated in the Paris Olympics, emphasizing their significant achievements. During a ceremony, Mann awarded cash prizes of ₹1 crore each to eight hockey players from Punjab who contributed to the Indian men’s hockey team’s bronze medal victory.

This team secured the bronze by defeating Spain 2-1, marking a historic achievement as it was the second consecutive Olympic medal for the team, a feat not accomplished in over five decades.

In addition to the hockey players, Mann recognized eleven other athletes from Punjab who participated in various events, awarding them ₹15 lakh each. This included athletes from shooting, athletics, and golf, showcasing the state’s diverse sporting talent. Mann expressed pride in the athletes’ performances and highlighted their role as inspirations for the youth of Punjab. He emphasized that such recognition would boost the morale of upcoming players and encourage greater participation in sports.

Mann also announced plans to further promote sports in Punjab, including the organization of a four-nation hockey tournament in Mohali and the launch of the third edition of ‘Kheda Watan Punjab Dian,’ aimed at fostering sporting talent in the state. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting athletes through various initiatives, including job opportunities and promotions for medal winners.

The Chief Minister’s efforts reflect a broader commitment to sports development in Punjab, aiming to create a conducive environment for athletes to thrive and succeed on national and international stages. The celebration of the players’ achievements serves not only to honor their hard work but also to inspire future generations to pursue excellence in sports
