UP Police has deployed more than 10,000 personnel for Maha Kumbh

Uttar Pradesh Police has implemented extensive security measures for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, deploying over 10,000 personnel to ensure the safety of the expected 450 million visitors during this significant religious event. The Maha Kumbh, which takes place from January 13 to February 26, 2025, is anticipated to be one of the largest gatherings in the world, marking a major occasion for devotees from across the globe.

Security Arrangements

The security framework is described as multi-layered, featuring advanced technologies and a robust on-ground presence. The deployment includes 14 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) and 45 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) who will coordinate with local authorities to manage the crowds effectively

Additionally, 1,378 women police officers are specifically assigned to ensure the safety of female devotees

To enhance surveillance and crowd management, the police have incorporated AI-enabled CCTV cameras and facial recognition systems. A central Integrated Control and Command Centre (ICCC) has been established for real-time monitoring and coordination during the event.

Infrastructure and Technology

In preparation for this massive event, authorities have created 102 checkpoints along key routes leading to Prayagraj, where the Kumbh is being held. These checkpoints will facilitate thorough vehicle and person checks to maintain security

 

The police force has also set up floating chowkis (police posts) to monitor activities on water bodies, ensuring safety during rituals at the Triveni Sangam, where devotees will gather for holy dips

Emergency Services

To address potential emergencies, a specialized fire department team equipped with modern firefighting technology will be present throughout the venue. This includes firefighting motorbikes capable of rapid response in crowded areas.

 

Furthermore, over 4,000 personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) have been deployed to manage train services and ensure safe travel for pilgrims arriving by rail
