KL Rahul Set for 100th ODI
KL Rahul is set to reach a major milestone in Indian cricket as he prepares to play his 100th ODI against West Indies in Guwahati on September 30, 2026. The India wicketkeeper-batter is also only 35 runs away from completing 10,000 international runs across formats.
The second ODI at Barsapara Cricket Stadium gives Rahul an opportunity to achieve both landmarks in the same match. India entered the contest with a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the opening ODI in Thiruvananthapuram by eight wickets.
A Big ODI Milestone
Rahul is expected to become the 38th Indian cricketer to play 100 ODIs. He has represented India in 99 matches and has scored 3,412 ODI runs, including eight centuries and 20 half-centuries.
His ODI career began in 2016 against Zimbabwe, where he made an unbeaten century. That performance made him the first Indian batter to score a hundred on ODI debut. Rahul has scored 4,288 runs in Test cricket, 3,412 in ODIs and 2,265 in T20Is. His international record also includes 22 centuries and 63 half-centuries.
The possibility of reaching 10,000 international runs in his 100th ODI adds extra significance to the Guwahati match. However, the milestone will depend on how many runs he scores during the innings, with India’s batting order also containing several established performers.
Rahul has often been valued for his ability to change roles depending on the format and match situation. In Test cricket, he has opened the innings and handled long spells at the crease. India won the opening ODI against West Indies by eight wickets in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27. West Indies posted 295 for seven after Justin Greaves scored 101 and John Campbell contributed 62.
India chased the target with two wickets down, reaching 300. Shubman Gill contributed a century with 110 runs, while Virat Kohli finished the innings unbeaten with 139 runs. Kohli’s century also took him past 15,000 ODI runs, adding another major milestone to the opening match.
The result gave India a 1-0 advantage before the teams travelled to Guwahati for the second game. The third ODI is scheduled for October 3 in New Chandigarh, with the five-match T20I series to follow later.
Rahul’s role in the second match will be closely watched because of both his personal milestones and his importance to India’s batting and wicketkeeping combination. The match will start at 2 PM IST at Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
India are being led by Shubman Gill, while West Indies are captained by Shai Hope. The series gives both teams an opportunity to assess their combinations and build continuity in the ODI format.
