CM Mohan Majhi describes Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has hailed the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) 2025 as a “holistic hub of diversified cultures” during its ongoing celebration in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from January 8 to 10. This year’s event, themed “The Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,” aims to strengthen ties between the Indian diaspora and their homeland while showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Odisha.

 

The PBD, an important platform initiated by the Indian government, is held every two years to engage with the overseas Indian community. It commemorates the contributions of non-resident Indians (NRIs) and fosters a sense of belonging among them. The significance of this year’s theme reflects India’s vision of development and progress, inviting the diaspora to actively participate in the nation’s growth journey.

 

Majhi emphasized that hosting the PBD in Odisha for the first time presents a unique opportunity to highlight the state’s historical and cultural richness. He noted that the event serves as a bridge connecting diverse cultures, allowing participants from over 50 countries to engage and share their experiences. This interaction not only enhances cultural exchange but also promotes investment opportunities in various sectors, including tourism and business.

 

The event has attracted notable figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the convention. In his address, Modi underscored the importance of the diaspora in realizing a developed India by 2047. The presence of international delegates and dignitaries further enriches the discussions around collaboration and mutual growth.

 

The PBD also features various sessions focusing on youth leadership, business opportunities, and cultural showcases. The Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on January 8 highlighted the potential of young Indians abroad to contribute to national development. Additionally, cultural performances and exhibitions are being organized to celebrate Odisha’s artistic traditions, further enhancing its image as a vibrant cultural hub.

 

As part of its efforts to engage with the diaspora, Odisha has identified several tourist sites for delegates to explore, promoting local heritage and tourism potential.
