ESL FACEIT Group has officially announced the inaugural DreamHack Shanghai, set to take place from May 16 to May 18, 2025. This marks a significant milestone as it will be the first DreamHack festival hosted in China, coinciding with the debut of the Asian Champions League (ACL), organized by Hero Esports, during the same weekend.
The event will be held at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center, a venue that is expected to accommodate a large number of esports enthusiasts and participants. DreamHack Shanghai aims to replicate the success of its festivals in North America and Europe, bringing together gamers, competitors, and fans to celebrate the vibrant gaming culture in China. The festival will feature a mix of activities including esports competitions, an expo floor, an Artist Alley, and a Community Playground, alongside guest influencers and various interactive experiences.
Jonny (Xinyi) Wang, CEO and co-founder of Hero Esports, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating that combining DreamHack with the ACL sets a new standard for esports experiences in Asia. He highlighted China’s position as a global hub for gaming, with hundreds of millions of passionate players eager for such events. This partnership is seen as an opportunity to unite fans across different gaming genres and create memorable experiences.
The Asian Champions League will showcase a diverse range of games including Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, and Honor of Kings, making it one of the region’s most comprehensive esports tournaments. This multi-title format aims to attract a wide audience and enhance engagement within the esports community.
China is currently recognized as the second-largest gaming market globally, with projections estimating an audience of around 730 million fans by 2027. The country’s investment in esports infrastructure has been growing, evidenced by previous successful events such as the Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) held in Chengdu.
The DreamHack Shanghai festival is anticipated to be a celebration not only of competitive gaming but also of community spirit within the gaming culture. Attendees can look forward to various activities designed to foster connections among gamers, from casual players to professional competitors.
As preparations for this historic event unfold, ticket sales are expected to begin soon, with announcements made via DreamHack’s official channels on social media platforms. DreamHack Shanghai promises to be an unmissable event for gamers in Asia and beyond.
