Kongor Studios, in collaboration with Garena, has officially announced the much-anticipated return of the beloved multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game, Heroes of Newerth, now rebranded as Heroes of Newerth: Reborn. This revival comes after the original game was shut down in 2022, marking a significant moment for fans who have long awaited its return. Scheduled to launch as a free-to-play title on the iGames platform, Heroes of Newerth: Reborn aims to blend nostalgia with modern gaming innovations.

Originally released in 2010, Heroes of Newerth quickly gained a loyal following due to its fast-paced gameplay and strategic depth, drawing inspiration from the popular DOTA mod for Warcraft III. The game distinguished itself within the MOBA genre, but over time, it faced challenges that led to a decline in its player base. The new iteration promises to honor the legacy of its predecessor while introducing substantial upgrades and enhancements.

Jesse Hayes, co-founder of Kongor Studios and a former developer at S2 Games, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “After years of community support and the dedication of a passionate fan base, we are beyond excited to bring Heroes of Newerth back to life.” He emphasized that this is not just a relaunch but a reimagining tailored for today’s competitive gaming landscape. The game will feature over 80 heroes at launch, with plans for additional heroes in future updates.

The revamped version will offer improved performance and smoother gameplay powered by the advanced iGames Engine, which enhances graphics and user experience. Players can expect a completely overhauled user interface along with new gameplay mechanics such as an all-new boss character named Phoenix, designed to provide challenging yet rewarding encounters. Other features include role queues for selecting preferred roles before matches and innovative elements like ravens that assist with sight and Kongor pushing lanes.

Garena’s involvement has been pivotal in this revival. Jason Ng, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Garena, highlighted their commitment to ensuring that the spirit of the original game resonates with both veteran players and newcomers alike. The collaboration aims to reach a broader audience while preserving what made Heroes of Newerth special.

The launch of Heroes of Newerth: Reborn is not just about nostalgia; it represents a significant step towards revitalizing the MOBA genre with fresh content and modern mechanics. With an active community-driven initiative called the iGames Genesis Campaign, players will have opportunities to support the project directly and earn exclusive rewards. As anticipation builds ahead of its release, fans are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates on this exciting comeback.
