Bihar: truck and car collide, killing three and injuring two

Several road accidents involving trucks and other vehicles in Bihar have recently resulted in fatalities and injuries:

 

  • Nalanda DistrictOn Wednesday, January 8, 2025, a speeding truck collided with a passenger-filled auto-rickshaw near the Pragati Petrol pump in the Chhabilpur police station area, resulting in three deaths and three injuries. The deceased were identified as Kanchan Devi, Dilip Kumar, and Bindi Prasad. Priyanka Devi, Rinki Devi, and Ravi Ranjan Kumar were injured and admitted to Rajgir sub-divisional hospital and later referred to Pawapuri Medical College and Hospital. Police are investigating the truck driver for rash and negligent driving, as he fled the scene.

 

  • Patna DistrictOn Friday, November 22, 2024, a truck hit an autorickshaw carrying school students in the Bihta police station area, killing three children and injuring several others. The deceased were identified as Aarushi Kumari (8), Abhishek Kumar (9), and Prakash Kumar (6). The injured were admitted to Patna AIIMS and other local hospitals. An irate mob thrashed the truck driver and damaged several vehicles, blocking vehicular traffic.

 

  • Kaimur DistrictOn February 8, 2025, a vehicle carrying Maha Kumbh pilgrims collided with a truck on NH-19, resulting in one woman dead and several others injured.

 

  • MohaniaOn February 11, 2025, a collision between a truck and an auto resulted in 3 deaths and 2 injuries.

 

  • Jamui DistrictOn February 4, 2025, a truck hit a car, killing two and injuring four others.

Road accidents remain a major concern in India, with 4,12,432 road accidents reported in 2021, claiming 1,53,972 lives and injuring 3,84,448 people. The 18-45 age group is the most affected, accounting for about 67% of total accidental deaths. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is implementing a strategy based on education, engineering, enforcement, and emergency care to address road safety.
