Pakistan State Oil Assures Continuous Fuel Supply Amid Nationwide Strike

Pakistan State Oil (PSO), the country’s largest oil marketing company, has assured the public of uninterrupted fuel supply despite an ongoing nationwide strike by oil tanker owners and transporters.

The strike, which began on June 25, 2024, has disrupted fuel distribution across Pakistan, leading to shortages at various petrol pumps. In a statement, PSO emphasized that it has taken necessary measures to ensure continuous supply of petroleum products to its retail outlets. The company has activated its contingency plans, including utilizing alternative transportation modes and tapping into its strategic reserves, to mitigate the impact of the strike on fuel availability. [3,4]”We understand the concerns of the public and assure them that PSO is fully committed to meeting their fuel requirements,” said a senior official from the company. “Our teams are working around the clock to maintain supply and minimize any inconvenience caused by the ongoing situation.” The strike, which has been called by the All Pakistan Oil Tankers Owners Association (APOTOA), is a protest against the government’s recent decision to introduce new regulations for the transportation of petroleum products. APOTOA has demanded the withdrawal of these regulations, which they claim are impractical and will increase their operational costs. The government, on the other hand, maintains that the new regulations are necessary to ensure the safety and efficiency of fuel transportation. The Ministry of Energy has urged APOTOA to call off the strike and engage in constructive dialogue to resolve the issue. As the situation continues to unfold, PSO has advised consumers to avoid panic buying and to only purchase the fuel they require for immediate use. The company has also assured that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and take all necessary measures to maintain fuel supply across the country. In conclusion, while the nationwide strike by oil tanker owners has disrupted fuel distribution in Pakistan, PSO remains committed to ensuring continuous supply of petroleum products to its retail outlets.

The company’s contingency plans and utilization of alternative transportation modes are expected to mitigate the impact of the strike on fuel availability in the country.
