Jaishankar will travel to the United Arab Emirates from January 27 to 29

27-Jan-2025, 02:15 PM

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is currently on a three-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from January 27 to 29, 2025. This visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between India and the UAE, a crucial partnership that has evolved significantly over recent years.

During his stay, Jaishankar is scheduled to meet with key Emirati leaders, including Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The discussions will focus on reviewing the existing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations and exploring new avenues for collaboration across various sectors such as trade, energy, and technology. The UAE is not only one of India’s main strategic partners in West Asia but also hosts a large Indian expatriate community of over three million, making it an essential player in India’s foreign relations.

A highlight of Jaishankar’s visit will be his participation in the Raisina Middle East conclave, where he will deliver the keynote address at its inaugural session in Abu Dhabi on January 28. This forum is designed to foster political dialogue and cooperation in the region and is co-hosted by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the UAE Foreign Ministry, and the Observer Research Foundation. His address is expected to outline India’s vision for its role in Middle Eastern geopolitics and enhance engagement with regional partners.

The India-UAE relationship has seen remarkable growth, particularly following the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in February 2022, which has facilitated increased trade and investment between the two countries. In the fiscal year 2023-24, bilateral trade reached approximately $84 billion, with India being the UAE’s second-largest trading partner. This economic collaboration underscores the importance of mutual interests in energy security and technological advancement.

Jaishankar’s visit comes at a time when both nations are keen to deepen their ties amidst changing geopolitical dynamics. The discussions are expected to encompass not only bilateral issues but also regional concerns, including developments in Gaza and broader Middle Eastern stability.

As Jaishankar engages with Emirati leadership, this visit represents a strategic opportunity to reinforce India’s commitment to enhancing its relationships in West Asia while addressing shared challenges and opportunities for growth. The outcomes of these discussions could pave the way for further initiatives that benefit both nations and contribute to regional stability.
