The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently become the target of a bomb threat communicated via email, which was received on December 13, 2024. The email, written in Russian, warned of an impending explosion at the bank, prompting immediate action from law enforcement. The Mumbai Police have registered a case against an unknown individual at the Mata Ramabai Marg police station and have initiated an investigation into the matter.
This incident marks the second bomb threat received by the RBI within a month. Previously, on November 16, a similar threat was made via a phone call to the RBI’s customer care service, where the caller claimed to be affiliated with the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. In that instance, the caller had engaged in bizarre behavior, singing a song before issuing the threat. The police are currently working to identify the sender of the latest email and have emphasized that investigations are ongoing.
The recent bomb threat to the RBI is part of a broader pattern of threats targeting various institutions in India. Just days before this incident, six schools in Delhi also received bomb threats via email. These threats led to extensive searches by police and fire services, although many were later deemed hoaxes. Notably, over 40 schools had received similar threats on December 9, raising concerns among officials and parents regarding safety protocols in educational institutions.
The Mumbai Police’s response to these threats has included increased vigilance and coordination with various agencies to ensure public safety. The Deputy Commissioner of Police for Zone 1 stated that they are taking all necessary precautions while investigating these incidents. Additionally, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has expressed alarm over the frequency of such threats and their implications for public safety and security.
In summary, the RBI’s recent bomb threat reflects ongoing security challenges faced by institutions across India. Authorities are actively investigating these incidents to prevent potential dangers and reassure the public about their safety measures.
