Home Minister Shah and PM Modi honor Balasaheb Thackeray

On November 17, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to Balasaheb Thackeray on the occasion of his 12th death anniversary. Thackeray, a prominent figure in Maratha politics and the founder of the Shiv Sena party, was remembered for his significant contributions to Maharashtra’s development and the empowerment of the Marathi community.

Prime Minister Modi’s Tribute

Prime Minister Modi described Thackeray as a visionary leader, emphasizing his role as a catalyst for Maharashtra’s progress. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, he stated, “I pay homage to the great Balasaheb Thackeray Ji on his Punya Tithi. He was a visionary who supported the advancement of Maharashtra and the Marathi people’s self-determination” 136. Modi highlighted Thackeray’s dedication to promoting Indian culture and pride, noting that his “bold voice and unwavering spirit continue to inspire generations”.

Amit Shah’s Reflection

Amit Shah also honored Thackeray, referring to him as an “eminent politician” who dedicated his life to Sanatan culture and national interests. Shah praised Thackeray’s steadfast commitment to his principles, stating, “Whenever the country talks about dedication to ideology and commitment to principles, Balasaheb Thackeray is definitely remembered” 15. He reiterated that Thackeray’s resilience in upholding his beliefs, even during challenging times, serves as an inspiration for many.

Legacy of Balasaheb Thackeray

Balasaheb Thackeray, born on January 23, 1926, in Pune, was not only a politician but also a cartoonist who began his career with The Free Press Journal. He later founded Marmik, a political weekly that laid the foundation for his political journey 16. His influence on Maharashtra’s political landscape remains profound, with many acknowledging his role in advocating for the rights and dignity of the Marathi people.
