Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals by 20 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday to secure a spot in the IPL playoffs, despite captain Sanju Samson’s 86 runs being in vain. In the meantime, in an exciting match in the nation’s capital, RR lost for the second time. Samson’s contentious dismissal that changed the game has garnered a lot of attention.

Samson emerged as RR’s lone survivor as they chased 222 runs for victory, losing opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over alone. Samson, who was selected for the Indian T20 World Cup team, quickly accelerated to 40 runs during the powerplay to take the attack to Delhi.

But with batters not sticking around for long, the RR wicketkeeper-batter was left without much help at the other end. Even so, Samson kept going, needing 63 runs from five overs to reach the objective. This was the point in the game when the dispute started. With a delivery from Mukesh Kumar aimed at long range, Samson seemed to have done enough to clear the boundary ropes for a six. However, Shai Hope assessed the overhead catch while positioned in the deep. With the possibility that his feet had touched the rope, he had to tiptoe on the line.
