Indian javelin throw star Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold medal at the 2024 Tokyo Olympics, has expressed his delight and admiration for the record-breaking performance of the Indian contingent at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
India won a total of 29 medals, including 7 gold, at the Paralympic Games, surpassing their previous best tally of 19 medals from the Tokyo 2020 edition. In a statement, Chopra said, “I am thrilled and proud of our para-athletes for their incredible achievements at the Paris Paralympics. They have not only brought glory to the nation but have also inspired millions with their grit, determination, and sheer talent. “The 26-year-old became the first Indian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in track and field, demonstrating his appreciation for the para-athletes’ dedication and perseverance. He said, “These athletes have overcome numerous challenges and barriers to reach this level of excellence. Their success is a testament to their unwavering spirit and the support they have received from the government and the nation. “Chopra also highlighted the importance of promoting para-sports in India and providing equal opportunities for athletes with disabilities. He said, “The performance of our para-athletes has shown that given the right resources and support, they can achieve greatness.
We must continue to invest in para-sports and ensure that every athlete, regardless of their abilities, has access to world-class facilities and training. “The Olympic champion’s words echo the sentiments of the nation as a whole, with the Indian government and sports authorities praising the para-athletes for their historic performance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team, saying, “India is proud of our para-athletes and their record-breaking performance in Paris. They have shown the world that disability is no barrier to success. “The success of the Indian para-athletes has not only brought joy to the nation but has also highlighted the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in sports. As Chopra rightly pointed out, the achievements of these athletes serve as an inspiration to millions, proving that with determination and support, anything is possible.
